The torrential rains that hit Valencia five days ago and have left more than 200 dead so far have meant that many Valencians have lost everything they had. The shortage of food and drinking water has meant that all of Spain is lending a hand to send resources and, of course, Lanzarote was not going to be less.
Civil Protection launched a collection point this Saturday at its headquarters in Arrecife, in the area behind the Police Station in the capital of Lanzarote. Those who wish can donate non-perishable food, basic necessities and hygiene products and items such as shovels, buckets, wheelbarrows, blankets, sheets, warm clothes, etc...
This warehouse will remain open every day of the week, between 9:00 in the morning and until 9:00 p.m. The City Council has reported that the trips of these donations to the port of Valencia will be covered
The world of sports also wanted to contribute its grain of sand. In this case, the Lanzarote Puerto del Carmen Handball Club donated the entire proceeds of the match against Cleba to those affected by the floods. The president of the team, Félix Montelongo, declared that "the world of sports must show solidarity with the thousands of Valencians who have absolutely lost everything."
For its part, the Tinajo Wrestling Club also wanted to show solidarity with those affected with a collection box that they put in the match that was played this weekend against the Unión Norte Wrestling Club so that attendees could make donations if they wished.
The solidarity of the people of Lanzarote is also reflected in events such as the one organized by the Sociedad Democracia de Arrecife. United for Valencia will be held next Sunday, November 10 at 7:30 p.m. to collect products with non-perishable food, milk for babies and adults, warm clothes for both children and adults, sheets, blankets, baby wipes, toiletries, etc.
The event will feature performances by different artists such as Ángela Luque, Toñín Corujo, MT Dance, Xtreme Up Dance Studio, Mago Artem or Julián Foronda, among others.
