Lanzarote records wind gusts of more than 80 kilometers per hour this Tuesday

This caused the Security and Emergency Consortium to act in different assistance throughout the island

Lanzarote suffered strong gusts of wind of up to 80 kilometers per hour this Tuesday, and waves of up to five meters high, according to Aemet. This situation forced the Security and Emergency Consortium to act in different assistance throughout the island. For now, maritime connections with La Graciosa remain closed.

On Tuesday afternoon, Aemet recorded maximum wind gusts of up to 84 kilometers per hour and an average speed of 59 kilometers per hour at Lanzarote Airport. Meanwhile, around 4:00 p.m., maximum gusts of 67 kilometers per hour were recorded in the north of the island and the average speed of 50 kilometers per hour.

The firefighters had to intervene in different points of Lanzarote. Among them, the Emergency teams were activated to go to the Farmer's Monument due to a detachment of some pieces of the sculpture to Fertility and the fall of a wall in Playa Honda, in the area of Loro Verde, as La Voz published during the afternoon of Tuesday.

With regard to Arrecife, they provided service in two assistances during the afternoon of Tuesday. The first, in the Ikea area, in which one of the plates of the facade cladding of the establishment was about to come loose. Given the risk of falling, the Local Police and the store staff proceeded to place mooring tapes to hold it. Upon arrival, at about 4:39 p.m., the emergency teams secured those loose plates with tapes, tying them to fixed and solid anchors of the structure of the ship, with the help of the auto ladder.

The second assistance in the capital of Lanzarote, occurred on the Carretera de Las Caletas in the facilities of Canal Gestión, at about 11:51 p.m. Alerted by the agents of the Local Police of Arrecife, the firefighters had to go to the place to control the fall of a tree in Las Caletas.

Upon arrival, the police officers were already securing the area, as reported by the Security and Emergency Consortium. The Emergency teams proceeded to check that there were two fallen trees and one leaning on the Canal Gestión building with danger of falling. Then, they cut the tree with the help of the electro saw.

During Wednesday night, the Government of the Canary Islands has declared the situation of alert for risk of coastal flooding in Lanzarote. With risk of coastal flooding due to waves jumping to sea promenades and roads near the coastline during high tides (the risk is concentrated from 2 hours before and up to 1.5 hours after the peak time of high tide) due to the concurrence of northeast wind force 6 and 7 (39 - 61 kilometers per hour), strong swell with areas of rough sea, northeast groundswell of between 1 and 2 meters and new moon spring tides with tide coefficients 102 and 95. The high tides for this Wednesday will take place from 02.50 to 03.15 hours and from 15.15 hours to 15.40 hours.
