Lanzarote reached the highest temperature ever recorded in a month of November. The island of volcanoes reached 32.8 degrees in the second to last month of the year, surpassing the values reached in the same month of 2024. That year saw the warmest November in Lanzarote since data collection began in 1961. This is according to the State Meteorological Agency (Aemet) in its climatological advance released this Tuesday.
Specifically, Lanzarote reached its maximum temperature at the Aemet station in Los Dolores (Tinajo), hitting 32.8 degrees on the 4th. A year ago, the highest temperature recorded at this station was 31.8 degrees on November 9, 2024.
Despite this November being warmer and drier than normal, Lanzarote was not the island that suffered the highest temperatures in the archipelago, but rather ranked sixth. Added to this is La Graciosa, which had the lowest high temperature in the Canary Islands. In contrast, Tenerife was the island that registered the hottest temperature, up to 35 degrees at 868 meters altitude; followed by Gran Canaria with 34.9 degrees, at 318 meters altitude; and El Hierro, with 34.5 degrees.
Meanwhile, in La Graciosa, a maximum of 27.5 degrees was reached, while the highest minimum temperature on the eighth island was 21.1 degrees
These data reflect anomalies of up to 4.6 degrees above normal in the case of most islands, which were greater at the beginning of the month, but which were also noticeable in the second to last week of November.
Added to this, November was a drier than usual month in the Canary Islands, the 27th driest on record. Last month, only 68% of the expected rainfall was recorded across the archipelago. These rains were more frequent in the western province and in Gran Canaria, and very light in Lanzarote and La Graciosa.
