The team of six specialists from the Security and Emergency Consortium was world runner-up in the standard category of the World Rescue Challenge 2018 South Africa. The president of the Cabildo, Pedro San Ginés, who accompanied the firefighters during the tests, congratulated the team. "They are a source of pride for the people of Lanzarote, the entire Emergency Consortium is an example of effort, work, desire to improve and public service." The president of the Emergency Consortium, Juan Manuel Sosa, has joined these congratulations.
The firefighters managed to be world runner-up in the standard modality against the selection of the best 30 teams from 14 countries. Also in the standard category, Lanzarote achieved the best health worker in the world and the command achieved the third place of the absolute general. In the general classification they were seventh.
"The impressive thing is that a team that was created in 2014 already has this level. It is a pleasure to see them compete and above all to know that these professionals are the ones who are going to assist us when we have an accident, it is a peace of mind to have them on our island", San Ginés pointed out.

From the Cabildo it is recalled that the Lanzarote Fire Brigade Team was born "by the initiative of several members of the Consortium's body who, with their selfless effort and great work, have managed to position themselves, in their short but intense trajectory, as one of the teams with the best track record at the national level in the last five years." "They stand out as specialists in extrication and rescue of victims of traffic accidents at the national level, and therefore were classified directly to participate in the World Rescue Challenge 2018", it is pointed out.
In addition, "these world championships are much more", it is pointed out from the Cabildo, from where it is indicated that "the Lanzarote Fire Brigade Team also went to learn new techniques and methodologies for the rescue and extraction of victims in traffic accidents, because solidarity and training is a pillar of these competitions".
