The director, screenwriter and producer from Lanzarote, Roberto Pérez Toledo, passed away this Monday, January 31, at the age of 43, due to a stroke he suffered last Tuesday, which unfortunately he was unable to overcome.
He was born in the Titerroy neighborhood in 1978. He was the son of Carmen Toledo Rodríguez and Pedro Pérez Domínguez, two very popular families in the neighborhood and very linked to the world of sports.
In addition, he was the town crier of the neighborhood festivities in honor of San José Obrero, in 2014.
According to the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences of Spain, the filmmaker was scheduled to participate this Monday in a meeting at the Film Academy, which included the screening of his short films 'Vuelco', 'Los gritones', 'RotosS', 'Sí a todo', 'Tris', 'Admirador secreto', 'Taras', 'Amor de autor', 'Siempre que lo cuento', 'Hidroalcohólico' and 'Antes de la erupción'. The latter was recorded in Lanzarote, and toured festivals around the world, also winning the award for Best International LGTBI Short Film at the Alicante International Film Festival.
In addition, his death coincided with the performance, during these days, of his first play, 'Basic sign language manual to break hearts', at the María Guerrero Theater in Madrid.
As for feature films, Toledo premiered 'Seis puntos sobre Emma' in 2012, this being the first as director and screenwriter, with which he won several awards. In 2013 he participated in the collective feature film 'Al final todos mueren', and the following year he released the tv-movie 'Los Raros amigos', which has more than 22 million views on the internet. His third solo film was 'Como la espuma', released in 2017. He was currently working on his latest work, the feature film 'Places we have never been'.
