Lanzarote becomes a filming location for the fourth season of "The Black Mirror"

The Black Mirror, the British series that premiered in 2011, has recorded part of its fourth season in Lanzarote, which will be broadcast this year on Netflix. Specifically, the third chapter has been shot in Playa Bermeja, located in the Natural Park of the Volcanoes, in the municipality of Yaiza.

The cult fiction signed by Charlie Brooker has more than twenty million followers worldwide and the recording has brought the cast of the series to the island along with the episode director, Toby Haynes. For this fourth season, the acclaimed actress and film director Jodie Foster is also expected to direct one of the episodes.

Those responsible for the recording have indicated that they looked for locations on other islands of the Canary archipelago as well as on the peninsula, "Lanzarote being the ideal place for filming".

More than 270,000 euros

According to the Councilor for Territorial Policy and Environment of the Cabildo de Lanzarote, Marcos Bergaz, about 80 people have participated, between January 31 and February 3, in the works that have meant an income of more than 270,000 euros.

"There is no doubt that these projects, which have become a constant on the island, contribute to improving and diversifying our economy", Bergaz said. The councilor also pointed out that "we responsibly assume the granting of permits for filming that takes place in our natural sets, thus achieving the least impact on the areas chosen by the producers".

The initiative, according to the Councilor for Tourism of the Cabildo, Echedey Eugenio, is part of the product 'Lanzarote Film Commission'. It is a "specialized segment of Turismo Lanzarote, which was created by the island promotion entity with the objective of facilitating the filming work of companies and professionals in the audiovisual sector and serving as a promotional lever for the island abroad".

The landscapes and locations of Lanzarote make the island an "unparalleled natural set", in the words of Eugenio, and "it is very attractive due to the countless possibilities it offers". Among these cinematographic attractions of Lanzarote are "its diverse and unique landscapes, white and black beaches, volcanic land, charming villages, cliffs, roads and marinas, all within a short distance between the different locations". Likewise, "we must not forget the tax incentives and services offered by the island for the audiovisual industry, since all this makes Lanzarote an attractive place for these companies", said the head of the Tourism area of the Cabildo.

The Lanzarote Film Commission product, according to the Department of Tourism, "is having very good results and is becoming an excellent instrument for promotion abroad.

On the other hand, Lanzarote has also been chosen by "a prestigious luxury car brand that will record its advertising in Lanzarote in the coming days", according to Marcos Bergaz. In recent months, brands such as BMW, Mercedes Benz or Louis Vuitton have opted for the island as a filming set for their spots.
