Lanzarote closed last year 2021 with 156,189 registered inhabitants, compared to the 155,812 in 2020 and 152,289 in 2019. Thus, during the pandemic, the progressive increase in the island's population has also been maintained, according to the yearbook "Lanzarote in Figures" published by the Data Center of the Cabildo.
The document also reflects that almost one in four inhabitants registered on the island comes from abroad. In total there are 36,234, which represents 23% of the total population.
Of these foreign citizens, the majority are from the United Kingdom, with 6,725. In second place are the residents who come from Colombia, with 4,369; closely followed by Moroccans, with 4,180, and Italians, with 4,097.
In fifth place is another European country, Germany, from where 2,125 residents on the island come.
The Chinese community, for its part, has 1,561 inhabitants registered on the island, occupying sixth place.
Behind them are those originating from Romania (1,176), Cuba (772), Venezuela (766), India (726), France (662), Portugal (559), Dominican Republic (554), Argentina (457) and Ecuador (413).
To these are added 648 citizens from other African countries and 6,444 in which the study does not specify their origin.
Population by municipalities
By municipalities, Arrecife currently concentrates 41.2% of the total population of the island, with 64,497 inhabitants.
In second place is Teguise, with 23,044, followed by Tías, with 20,801, and San Bartolomé, with 19,058.
Yaiza is in fifth place, with 16,977 registered inhabitants, and the list is closed by Tinajo, with 6,447, and Haría, with 5,365.
