The Cabildo of Lanzarote activates the Emergency Plan in the face of the alert for adverse weather phenomena, in this case for rain on the island. The measure, in accordance with the Specific Emergency Plan of the Canary Islands for Risks of Adverse Meteorological Phenomena (PEFMA), has the main purpose of safeguarding the safety of citizens against the risk of flooding.
By virtue of this resolution, from 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, October 15, 2024 and until further notice, the alert provided for in the PEIN is activated on the islands of Lanzarote and La Graciosa. Likewise, following the recommendations of the General Directorate of Emergencies of the Government of the Canary Islands, the population is urged to follow the safety recommendations and avoid unnecessary travel.
The councilor and president of the Security and Emergency Consortium, Francisco Aparicio, urges the population to take extreme precautions and follow the following prevention measures in the face of the risk of flooding, including the revision of roofs, the preparation of basic supplies and attention to the indications of local authorities and emergency services.
In addition, specific recommendations have been established for the municipalities of the island, with the aim of minimizing risks and guaranteeing the coordination of public and private organizations in the face of this alert situation.
