The comedian Kike Pérez will be the announcer of the capital's Carnival festivities 2024. This was revealed this Thursday at a press conference by the mayor of Arrecife, Yonathan de León, and the Councilor for Festivities, Echedey Eugenio.

Kike (without a last name, as he likes) arrived at the meeting with the media at the Municipal Market, accompanying the authorities and Roberto Perdomo, author of the poster announcing the festivities, hiding his identity under the typical clothing of the Parranda Marinera Los Buches, an indisputable symbol of the carnival of the third capital of the Canary Islands.

After welcoming and discovering that the image of the Arrecife Carnival is a Dreamcatcher and wishing that, as in the old Amerindian cultures, it attracts everything good and desirable, the mayor and the Councilor for Festivities encouraged the announcer to reveal his face.

"We are going to have the Great Carnival that we deserve as the capital of Lanzarote and I want to thank all the people who are making it possible, Roberto, for the great work he has done with the poster and, of course, Kike, for having accepted to be the announcer in this year 2024 in which we are celebrating the 225th anniversary of the municipality of Arrecife," said the capital's mayor, Yonathan de León, who took advantage of his speech to invite citizens to participate in each and every one of the events of the extensive program that will be announced in the coming days.

For his part, the Councilor for Festivities, Echedey Eugenio, recalled that the Arrecife Carnival has to be special because "the city will become between February 1 and 17 in the epicenter of fun and leisure on the island".

The councilor also had words of praise and gratitude for both the announcer and the author of the poster and pointed out that "our main objective is that the people of Arrecife feel proud of belonging to Arrecife and we are committed to a carnival worthy of the third capital of the Canary Islands." Eugenio also conveyed his gratitude to the Parranda Marinera de Los Buches, represented at the press conference by its president Juan Antonio Machado, and stressed that "we want a carnival that values our authenticity and our traditions".

The announcer

Comedian, actor and presenter, he was the announcer of the Carnival of Las Palmas in 2018 and has been doing comedy on Televisión Canaria for five years. However, Kike Pérez is much more: he is from Arrecife.

In his turn to speak, visibly moved, he thanked the mayor and the Councilor for Festivities for having thought of him to be the announcer. "I am very proud to be from Arrecife, and very excited to wear this clothing today that means so much to the history of the city," he said, and added, "I am a carnival-goer and I am a murguero. Living the carnivals of Arrecife now as an announcer is a great honor."

The poster

In his explanation of the poster, the author of the same, Roberto Perdomo, pointed out that "given that the theme of this year is the Wild West, we have decided to approach the aesthetics of the Indians, where the profusion of colors in costumes for their "Pow Wow" festivals, feathers, colored beads, arrows and fabrics, perfectly harmonize with the resources used in the troupes, the drags, the murga groups and the popular costumes".

This extreme combination of elements is combined in the "dream catcher". Its circular shape, which symbolizes totality and perfection, is the geometric shape that makes it inevitable to look at it, a function that every advertising poster must fulfill.

Therefore, the combination of the carnival as a manifestation of the joy of the people, the aesthetics and culture of the North American Indians, together with a typographic font popularly known as "cowboys", make the advertising poster invite the people to celebrate life.
