The folklore of Puerto del Carmen is in mourning. This Thursday, Heraclio Niz Fernández, a founding member of Amigos de Portonao, passed away on the island of Tenerife. Niz was present from the beginning of the first meetings led by José Borges around the year 1978 until a few years later, around 1984, when they presented the group.
Heraclio's mission was to play the guitar while also joining his voice with those of his companions, participating in the first recording of the vinyl record around the year 1987 "Sails and Winds of the Past". A jewel to which they added a broad and enriching book with texts and photographs of the "Old Seafaring Arrecife".
After 19 years, Amigos de Portonao recorded their second CD in CD format, continuing with the same line of maritime tradition entitled "Between Masts and Volcanoes." Heraclio participated in each of the performances carried out by the group on many stages in Lanzarote and the Canary Islands. He also had the honor of participating in the opening speech of the San Ginés festivities held in El Charco in 2018, without forgetting the XXX editions of the Braulio de León Habaneras and Sea Music Encounter within the program of events of the San Ginés festivities.
From La Voz de Lanzarote we want to send our condolences to his family and colleagues at Amigos de Portonao.
Rest in Peace, Heraclio Níz Martín
