The State Meteorological Agency (Aemet) has issued a yellow warning for high temperatures for Saturday in Lanzarote.

Initially, this warning will be active between 11:00 in the morning and 20:00 in the afternoon of August 9. On this day, Aemet expects maximums of 35 degrees throughout the island, mainly affecting inland areas.

In the interior of the island, it is also expected that the minimum temperatures will not drop below 25-27 degrees. In this way, Lanzarote could suffer torrid nights, that is, those where the minimum temperature does not drop below 25 degrees and where sleeping is increasingly difficult.

The Canary Islands and the rest of the country, except for the Cantabrian mountain range, have been on alert for a heat wave since Sunday, August 3. This situation could extend until at least Tuesday, August 12. However, it has been since this past Tuesday, August 6, when Aemet has reported "a clear upward trend" in temperatures in the archipelago.

The rise in temperatures will continue throughout the week in the Canary Islands and from this Wednesday it will be possible to exceed 34 and 37 degrees in midlands and high areas. Meanwhile, it will be the weekend when "the peak of the episode" will be experienced, with temperatures between 38 and 40 degrees.
