A group of residents from the town of Haría, half German and half native, decided to visit the ITB fair in Berlin in 2012 with the aim of conveying a firm commitment to healthy tourism, where visitors could discover the particularities of the municipality and its people, as well as its natural and cultural heritage, that is, to promote adequate, ethical and respectful ecotourism with its environment.
Thus, Haría Society, among whom were the photographer Jesús Perdomo, the stone artist Santiago Navarro or the ceramist Aquilino Rodríguez, accompanied by Bettina Bork, undertook the trip to Berlin loaded with baskets, stones, clay, palm leaves, a sample of the essence of César Manrique, photographs of the place and all the utensils that could show the culture of this town in the eight square meters that the fair granted them.
"The means and effort to carry out this trip were financed by donations from humble people from the same municipality of Haría and Arte de Obra, also counting with the support of the directors of the Adventure&Responsible Tourism Hall, Frederike Hansen and Mariana Mc.Gill", they point out from the City Council, which highlights that now this association has the collaboration of the Consistory and the Tourist Centers.
Next November 24, Haría Society and César Manrique will be recognized from the ITB of Berlin for their excellent presentation in 2012, in an act that will take place in Jameos del Agua, between 8:00 p.m. and 10:00 p.m., and that will have the presence of the mayor, Marciano Acuña, and different members of the local Corporation. During those days, ITB ambassadors will be accompanied by the Haría Society in their visit to Lanzarote and, especially, to the northern municipality.
It should be noted that a special program is being carried out on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of this tourist fair, in which 50 ambassadors will travel to 50 destinations around the world and meet with 50 representatives from those countries. The selected countries will be awarded with the limited ITB bears and the book ‘From Berlin with Love’ will be published.
