The resident of Haría, Juana Casanova Rodríguez, awarded the Haría Prize in 2012 for her outstanding contribution to the community, passed away this past December 25th.
The Haría City Council has deeply regretted her passing. The mayor, Alfredo Villalba, on behalf of the entire municipal corporation, extends his deepest condolences for the loss of such a beloved and respected figure in the town.
Juana Casanova Rodríguez was born on March 27, 1927, in Haría, being the sixth child of Zenón Casanova Rodríguez and Francisca Rodríguez Lasso. From a young age, she dedicated herself to education, family care, and multiple charitable initiatives.
After finishing her studies at the age of 14, she collaborated in her father's bakery and actively participated in parish charitable projects, especially through the Catholic Action group, under the guidance of Father Juan Arocha.
In difficult times, without public support, she assisted needy families, visited the sick, and managed projects such as the Cáritas clothing bank, ensuring that those who needed it most had the essentials to live with dignity. Additionally, she contributed to the education of children and young people as a catechist and monitor, promoting values and knowledge through educational and recreational activities.
Passionate about music and culture, she joined the parish choir and participated in local plays and operettas, notably her role in "Las campanas de mi pueblo." She also trained in dressmaking and as a clinic assistant, skills she passed on to several generations of women in the municipality and which allowed her to maintain her independence after the death of her parents.
Until her final years, she remained active in community life, participating in Christian deepening groups and supporting the religious education of children and families.
