The autopsy performed on the body of María del Carmen, the woman found dead with her partner this Wednesday in the El Zardo neighborhood, in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, has revealed that she died of mechanical asphyxia by compression, as judicial sources have confirmed to EFE.

This confirms the violent origin of the woman's death, in a case that the Police, under the coordination of the Court of Violence against Women number 2 of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, has investigated from the first moment as a possible sexist crime.

With the autopsy on the table, the investigation continues in the court to determine what could have happened between the night of Monday, June 23, and the morning of Tuesday, June 24, a holiday in the city.

It was the woman's daughter who discovered her mother's body on Wednesday at noon, when she went to the house where María del Carmen and her partner, Alfonso, had been living for a year, at number 109 of Vega del Río Palmas street, because she was surprised that she had not gone to work that day.

Shortly after, the agents also discovered the body of the man, who, allegedly, hanged himself on the stairs that accessed the second floor of the building.

Pending the Government Delegation against Gender Violence confirming María del Carmen's death as gender violence, the number of women murdered in Spain for this reason rises to 18 this year, 1,312 since 2003.
