Maritime Rescue has rescued another five precarious boats, bringing the total to nine boats rescued throughout the day this Saturday, according to the Emergency Consortium.
The Salvamar Al Nair has rescued a fifth boat located northeast of Lanzarote with 66 migrants, 61 men, one woman and 4 minors. It has headed with the migrants, all of Maghrebi origin, to the port of Arrecife.
According to sources from Maritime Rescue informed EFE, in addition, the Concepción Arenal coast guard has assisted another 48 migrants, 37 men, 5 women and 6 minors from a sixth boat and is going to the rescue of a seventh boat, both located by the Civil Guard's surveillance system northeast of Lanzarote, about 29 kilometers from Punta Mujeres.
The seventh boat that the Salvamar Al Nair has rescued, with about 53 migrants on board, one of them a minor, was suffering from a leak and has been located about 74 kilometers northeast of Lanzarote, an area where the Salvamento vessel had previously rescued the occupants of two other boats.
Hours later, two other boats were rescued and transferred to Puerto Naos to be assisted by the Red Cross. One of them was carrying 62 people, 42 men, 17 women and three minors, while the other was carrying 46 men.
In total, 489 people have arrived on the island this Saturday.
