Famara beach has been reopened for swimming this Tuesday, July 29, and no presence of blue dragons has been recorded either on Monday or Tuesday. This has been confirmed by the manager of the Lanzarote Emergency Consortium, who has assured that, for the moment, no specimens of this marine species have been sighted in the area.
Blue dragons (Glaucus atlanticus), although striking in color, can be dangerous, causing skin irritations similar to those of jellyfish. Their appearance usually generates some alarm among bathers, although their presence on the Lanzarote coast is not usual.
The Consortium maintains surveillance on the beaches of the north of the island, especially in Famara, after the recent appearance of some specimens last week. For now, however, there is no reason to restrict bathing.
The authorities remind the population that, in case of sighting, they should avoid direct contact with these animals and immediately notify the emergency services.
