On the occasion of the Canary Islands Day holiday, the Democracia society celebrated a choral concert last Thursday night as part of the program of events for the enjoyment of members and the general public.
The event began with a performance by the El Cribo Canta choir, directed by Beni Ferrer and accompanied on the piano by the young professor, Israel Curbelo. El Cribo Canta is made up of people with mental illness, family members and volunteers who perform vocal musical pieces. A good therapy for patients with which they gradually achieve their integration into society while breaking down the barriers to stage fright.
The second part of the concert featured the performance of the Arrecife Polyphonic Choir under the direction of Hernán Lorenzo, accompanied on the piano by the professor, Pepe Artiles. Formed in 2007 by a group of friends united by their love of choral singing with the sole and healthy illusion of interpreting and singing the Canarian Mass of the composer Luis Prieto on the feast of the patron saint of Arrecife, San Ginés. Over these 10 years they have participated in different choral meetings and festivals, their presence being highly requested at island festivals.
For this concert, the two choirs chose a varied repertoire with songs of the Canarian genre by well-known authors. Counting in some of them with the collaboration of the attending public who very animatedly hummed their lyrics at the same time that they accompanied with the palms. Without a doubt, a concert where the two choirs, El Cribo Canta and Arrecife received the applause of the public as a prize.
Orlando Súarez, president of the Democracia society, was in charge of welcoming and was very satisfied with the interpretive quality of each of the choirs, which he congratulated and thanked for their collaboration with the society he presides over.
