Comisiones Obreras will inaugurate next Friday the project called "Safe Headquarters", a specialized care space for women victims of gender violence.
In the words of Esther Martín, Secretary of Trade Union Action, Equality and Youth of the Canary Islands, the headquarters "aims to be a place where they have the resources of our trade union organization and that will serve as a link with the State security forces and specialized care services."
From the union they point out that it is an idea that "had been brewing for some time within this organization" and that finally will see the light next Friday, May 20 at the CCOO Lanzarote facilities.
Specifically, María José Moreno Miranda, technician of the Equality cabinet and psychologist by profession, will be the one who provides the necessary help and attention to these women. "Above all, orienting them in the labor rights that correspond to them as victims of gender violence, but they will also be provided with all the information and help that the users of this service need," explains Yolanda Casaldarnos Alonso, Secretary of Equality of CCOO Lanzarote.
In addition, she adds that they are "holding meetings with different organizations that provide service and help to these women on the island", such as the technicians of the Equality area of the Arrecife City Council, the judge of the Court of Instruction 1 and Gender Violence of Arrecife, 112 and the different security forces of Lanzarote.
From CCOO Lanzarote they also wanted to thank Armando Santana, Councilor for Tourism for Nueva Canarias in the Arrecife City Council, for his economic donation, which "has given the definitive impulse to be able to carry out this project in Lanzarote".
Comisiones Obreras explains that it will also have this new service in the islands of Gran Canaria and Tenerife, and recalls that in 2022, "there are already 13 women who have been murdered by their partners or ex-partners and, for these crimes, 13 minors have been orphaned".
"Gender violence is a scourge that mercilessly hits a society that should not look the other way and that united must fight so that these crimes do not happen again," adds the union.
