Canary Islands asks the population for urgent blood donations for blood types 0- and 0+

High consumption in recent days has led to a decrease in these blood types, so the solidarity of citizens is called upon to donate blood

The General Directorate of Blood Donation and Hemotherapy of the Canary Islands Health Service (SCS) makes an urgent appeal for blood groups 0- and 0+, in order to increase reserves that have been compromised due to the high hospital demand in recent days.

It is important to remember that blood type O- is scarce in the population, but in high demand, as they can donate to all groups, although they can only receive blood of the same type. This makes them more vulnerable people, so their donation is essential

Where to donate

All those who wish to collaborate can obtain information regarding the locations of the mobile units on the page "www.efectodonacion.com", on social media (Facebook, X, Instagram or Youtube), as well as on the toll-free number 900 234 061, where they can obtain more information about the location of the mobile units and fixed extraction points of the Canary Transfusion Network

Where to donate in Gran Canaria

Today, November 5th, and tomorrow, November 6th, the donation campaign is taking place at the Cardones Mountain Campus. Anyone who wishes to donate can do so today until 7:30 PM and tomorrow from 9:00 AM to 7:00 PM.

In Arucas, a mobile donation unit is set up until next Friday. Specifically, on Fernando Caubín Ponce street from 9:00 AM to 1:45 PM and from 4:00 PM to 8:45 PM. Additionally, on Friday, the 7th, another mobile unit will be set up on the El Puertillo promenade from 4:00 PM to 8:45 PM.

On Friday, November 7, there will be a draw at the Ministry of Education headquarters from 9:00 AM to 1:45 PM

To end the week, the public will be attended to at the donation point set up in the Alcampo Telde shopping center, next to the lottery office. The hours will be Thursday and Friday from 4:00 PM to 8:45 PM.

Regarding fixed blood donation points, the General Directorate of Blood Donation and Hemotherapy makes its headquarters available to the public at Alfonso XIII street, number 4, in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, from 8:15 AM to 9:15 PM, except on holidays (it has a driveway for donors).

The fixed point of Santa Lucía de Tirajana, located in the annex of the Vecindario Health Center, will remain open to the public on Wednesday from 4:15 PM to 8:15 PM and on Thursday and Friday from 9:15 AM to 1:15 PM.

You can also go without an appointment to other fixed points of the Canary Transfusion Network, such as the Materno-Infantil University Hospital of the Canaries, Monday to Friday from 10:30 AM to 1:30 PM; the Doctor Negrín University Hospital of Gran Canaria, Monday to Friday from 8:30 AM to 7:30 PM, and the Insular University Hospital of Gran Canaria, where you can donate Monday to Friday from 10:00 AM to 7:30 PM, except on holidays (both have a donor access lane).Finally, at Hospiten Roca San Agustín, you can donate by appointment by calling 928 301 012 (option 8), on Tuesdays and Wednesdays from 8:00 AM to 2:00 PM

Where to donate in Tenerife

Until this Friday, a mobile donation unit is visiting the municipality of Santa Úrsula. The donor service hours are today from 4:15 PM to 8:45 PM, tomorrow Thursday from 9:00 AM to 1:45 PM and from 4:00 PM to 8:45 PM, and Friday from 9:00 AM to 1:45 PM and from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM.

On November 5 and 6, the donation campaign of the European University of the Canary Islands will be held. On Wednesday, the collection is at its headquarters in Plaza del Príncipe from 9:00 AM to 2:15 PM and from 3:30 PM to 9:00 PM. On Thursday, the campaign takes place at the La Orotava headquarters from 9:15 AM to 1:30 PM and from 4:15 PM to 8:15 PM.

On Friday, a mobile unit will be set up in the Plaza de la Catedral in La Laguna, where donations will be collected from 9:00 AM to 1:45 PM and from 4:00 PM to 8:30 PM.

On the other hand, you can also donate in the extraction room located inside the El Trompo Commercial Mall. The donation hours are Wednesday and Thursday from 4:15 PM to 8:30 PM and Friday from 9:15 AM to 1:30 PMAdditionally, you can go to donate at the fixed blood donation center in Santa Cruz de Tenerife, located at Méndez Núñez street, number 14, from Monday to Friday between 8:15 AM and 8:30 PM

At the fixed donation point located at the San Isidro Health Center in Granadilla de Abona, you can donate Monday to Friday from 8:15 AM to 7:30 PM. This point has a reserved parking space for donors, and telephone assistance is available at 677980518, except on holidays.

Regarding the fixed points of the Canary Transfusion Network, at the University Hospital of the Canary Islands, you can donate without an appointment from Sunday to Friday and on holidays from 8:30 AM to 9:30 PM and on Saturdays from 8:30 AM to 2:30 PM and from 3:30 PM to 8:00 PM. You can go to the Nuestra Señora de Candelaria University Hospital to donate without an appointment from Monday to Friday from 8:00 AM to 8:00 PM and on Saturdays from 9:00 AM to 1:00 PM, except on holidays. The donor helpline is 922 602 060

Donations can also be made at Hospiten Bellevue, in Puerto de la Cruz, by appointment at 922 385 235 (option 1), from Monday to Friday between 11:00 AM and 2:30 PM (except holidays). At San Juan de Dios Hospital, located at Carretera de Santa Cruz La Laguna, 53, donations can be made from Monday to Friday between 10:30 AM and 12:30 PM, except holidays.

Where to donate in Fuerteventura

Tomorrow, Thursday, November 6, a mobile donation point will be available to donors at the Antigua Youth Center. The hours will be from 9:00 AM to 1:30 PM.

Meanwhile, on Friday from 9:00 AM to 1:30 PM, donations can be made at the mobile unit that will be set up in the Puerto del Rosario Technology Park

Likewise, you can donate at the fixed point of the Canary Transfusion Network located at the General Hospital of Fuerteventura. The hours are Monday to Friday from 11:00 AM to 1:30 PM, and it is recommended to make an appointment by calling 928 546 684.

Where to donate in Lanzarote

This week you can donate at the Yacomar Cultural Center in Tías. The hours are Wednesday and Thursday from 4:00 PM to 8:45 PM and Friday from 9:00 AM to 1:30 PM.

The fixed point of the Canary Transfusion Network also remains operational on the island at the Doctor José Molina Orosa University Hospital. The hours are Monday to Friday from 8:30 AM to 1:00 PM, except on holidays.

Where to donate in La Palma

The University Hospital of La Palma, in Breña Alta, has a fixed blood collection point available from Monday to Thursday from 10:00 AM to 8:00 PM and on Fridays from 10:00 AM to 3:30 PM. It will be closed on Saturdays and will be open on Sundays from 1:00 PM to 8:00 PM. Donors can contact the donation point by calling 922 185 321 and 922 185 320.

Where to donate in La Gomera

The Nuestra Señora de Guadalupe Hospital has a blood donation point where you can donate blood from Monday to Wednesday from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM and on Thursdays and Fridays from 9:00 AM to 1:00 PM, except on holidays.

Where to donate in El Hierro

In El Hierro, you can donate blood at the Nuestra Señora de los Reyes Insular Hospital. The permanent donation point is open on Mondays from 10:00 AM to 12:30 PM, except on public holidays

 

Donation Requirements

To be a donor, you must meet some essential requirements. You must be between 18 and 65 years old (up to 60 if it's your first donation), weigh more than fifty kilos, be in good general health, and if you are a woman, not be pregnant and want to help others. To resolve any doubts, the Directorate General of Blood Donation and Hemotherapy has a toll-free donor helpline, 900 234 061.
