The last night of celebration for the Sacred Heart of Mary festivities once again brought together thousands of Lanzarote residents who came to the coastal town to enjoy the last Saturday of the month of August.
A night that ended with 21 interventions that were not serious by the NGO Emerlan. Of the total, eight have been for alcohol intoxication, and thirteen assistances of various kinds. Three people suffering from alcoholic comas were referred, one affected with an ankle fracture, another person with microsurgery sutures and one affected by abdominal pain to the Molina Orosa Hospital
The night began at 9:00 p.m. on the El Muelle stage with the poet, repentista and improviser Yeray Rodríguez who delighted the audience who came to see this performance. Once his show was over, the groups Lanzarote Swing and Los Conejeros took over until 4:00 a.m.
At the same time, in the so-called youth space of the Famara Tents, the night was experienced with another type of music, with performances by DJs and gogos, which also brought together thousands of young people.
The other side of the festivities
And while thousands of people enjoy the festivities, a group of people have been watching over the safety and emergencies of the thousands of people who came to Famara. The groups that have been working all night have been agents of the Local Police, Civil Protection, members of the Lanzarote Emergency and Security Consortium, Emerlan volunteers, and a source from the Teguise city council, "the night passed without serious incidents except for some cases of alcohol intoxication and some small fights that happen any weekend."
In addition to security, another group of people belonging to the cleaning company, Cepsa, have been working during the mornings of the weekend to ensure that the town wakes up clean. In this way, the image of young people enjoying the first hours of the day was contrasted with the Cepsa workers who were doing their job.
The operation has fourteen operators from the municipal cleaning service who have worked hard during the early morning and morning of this Sunday to ensure that the town is clean before the procession in honor of the Sacred Heart of Mary.
The works have been carried out from the dock area, where the main celebrations have taken place, passing through the different streets of the town; Avda. El Marinero, San Borondón, among others.
34 more containers have been placed in different parts of the town; 10 of them for selective collection.
This Sunday, August 31, the festivities end with the Solemn Mass, maritime-terrestrial procession in honor of the town's Patron Saint and the traditional water festival at 2:30 p.m. at El Muelle.
