This Thursday, Benito Ruiz Lemes, one of the founders of the Rotary Club Lanzarote in 1992 and later honorary president of the association, has passed away.

From the Rotary Club Lanzarote they point out that Benito was "a humble and kind person", and that he always collaborated intensely "with his family and his wife Juanita". In addition, they point out that he was one of the main people who organized activities, such as golf tournaments, to help the most disadvantaged.

He was also a prominent carpenter from Lanzarote, and created, together with his brother-in-law, the Ruiz y Medina carpentry industry, one of the most important in Lanzarote.

Benito was the brother of the historic Lanzarote handball coach, Joaquín Ruiz Lemes, who achieved glory in the sport on the benches of Torrelavega and Vifirehati, and also coached San José Obrero and Marítima. In addition, he was the father of the Lanzarote journalist Laura Ruiz.
