Lanzarote took to the streets this Friday to demand women's rights coinciding with the celebration of 'International Women's Day'. The downtown area of Arrecife brought together Lanzarote residents who wanted to raise their voices to promote equality and the empowerment of women.
With banners in their hands and feminist phrases, citizens marched through the streets of the capital to shout for an end to male violence around the world. A concentration that began at 4:00 p.m. in the Plazuela de Arrecife, with the subsequent reading of manifestos and that ended with an exhibition that shows the different testimonies of women from various parts of the world.
A claim that ended with the reading of the requests of feminist groups on the island, such as the Feminist Platform 8M Lanzarote and the Forum Against Gender Violence, on issues relating to the abolition of prostitution, the wage gap and the right to abortion.
A special event to remember all those women who have fought for our rights. "Commemorate all those who for three centuries have fought for our rights to be a reality in the laws and in the daily lives of our lives", they shouted while those present applauded their words.
