An 86-year-old neighbor from the island of La Graciosa had to be urgently transferred to Lanzarote during the early hours of last Saturday due to a medical problem. Specifically, the woman was attended to by the only emergency ambulance on the eighth island, operated by Emerlan, accompanied by her granddaughter, she boarded a boat and was later transferred to the Doctor José Molina Orosa Hospital upon arrival on the island, being admitted to the center at 01:43 in the morning.
Once in Lanzarote and after being attended to by the hospital's Emergency services, she was discharged. However, the lack of medical transport for non-urgent patients between Lanzarote and La Graciosa has forced this neighbor to remain in the hospital for two days, despite being discharged.
Her granddaughter Verónica, who accompanies her at the health center, assures that she has been offered a transportation service to Órzola, but that no solution is provided to return to her home in Caleta de Sebo. The resident of La Graciosa denounces that "there is no stretcher to transfer her", as it is a non-urgent service. Her grandmother needs that stretcher because she has a problem in her legs that prevents her from bending them and moving in a wheelchair.
Emerlan sources reveal to La Voz that the only ambulance in La Graciosa is responsible for providing this type of service when needed, but it depends on the Canary Islands Emergency Service to activate it or not, leaving the eighth island without an ambulance for the duration of the transfer.
Verónica denounces that "this is not the first time" they have suffered something similar, since on two previous occasions they have had to face the same problem. On the second occasion, she assures that Emerlan sent a stretcher from La Graciosa to Órzola to carry out the transfer by ferry.
