The president of the Cabildo, María Dolores Corujo, has expressed her satisfaction with the high degree of responsibility shown by the majority of Lanzarote students who have chosen to have a PCR test and return to Lanzarote to enjoy their Christmas holidays safely.
Corujo has reported that this campaign has been carried out thanks to the Ministry of Health of the Government of the Canary Islands in view of the concern that the Christmas return from other islands, the peninsula or other countries, would lead to an increase in the number of infections.
The campaign has been carried out through social networks and has been a success, as a total of 1,273 young people have requested an appointment to take the test upon arrival in Lanzarote or at the point of departure.
“Our youngest people have shown great responsibility, voluntarily submitting to this control to protect their families,” said Corujo.
The president has insisted on the need for one last effort: “Vaccines will very soon allow us to behave normally. We must not allow ourselves an excess of confidence now that could be tragic for our elders. It is in our hands, it depends on our responsibility, to ensure that this Christmas is safe.”
Corujo concluded by recalling that among the first 400 tests carried out, 18 positives have been detected, “which could have meant 18 new outbreaks, fortunately avoided thanks to the responsibility of those who have agreed to have the PCR carried out without it being mandatory.”
