Lanzarote once again remembered the victims of the Cruz del Mar this Wednesday, on the 34th anniversary of this tragedy. Representatives of the Government of the Canary Islands, the Cabildo of Lanzarote, the Insular Delegation of the General State Administration in Lanzarote, the Arrecife City Council and the rest of the local Corporations of the island held a tribute event in the vicinity of the Fishermen's Association, in the Puerto Naos area.

There, they made a floral offering and several boys and girls read poems in memory of that fateful November 28, 1978, in which a group of assailants boarded the fishing boat 'Cruz del Mar' in Saharan waters and ended the lives of seven Lanzarote residents of this crew.

In addition, this Wednesday a project was also presented to remember those sailors, and all those who have lost their lives at sea. To this end, the Cabildo will sign an agreement with the Government of the Canary Islands and the Port Authority of Las Palmas to erect a lighthouse as a commemorative monument.

The project, designed by Juan Brito, has an estimated budget of 30,000 euros and will be co-financed in equal parts by the three administrations. Under the name "The light that guides us", it aims to be erected in the Puerto Naos area.
