Adislan workers have decided to stop the indefinite strike that began on November 14. Instead, on Wednesdays, "each shift will stop for three hours" and will gather "at the door of the Cabildo at 8.15 am until the assembly decides any other movement", as explained by Luis Antonio Miguel, president of the association's Business Committee on Radio Lanzarote-Onda Cero.
"We are going to have a slightly quieter week because the strike pace we had last week cannot be sustained by any worker, as we were on an indefinite 24-hour strike from Monday to Friday and gathered at 11.00 am in the morning at the Cabildo. It was decided that we were going to reformulate the ways of demonstrating a little because what we were doing was a drain", explains Antonio Miguel.
For each day of strike that a person carries out, money is deducted from their payroll. "Between 50 and 70 euros are taken away, depending on the salary. It was approved that we had to change the strategy because we are not asking for a salary increase or an improvement in the conditions. We are simply asking to be paid what we are owed. And we are losing money and will continue to lose money exclusively to be able to receive what is our right, to receive the salary", says the president of the Adislan Business Committee.
"We are faced with brutal uncertainty. This situation is not new, it comes from a long time ago and led us to decide on the strike as such. But we cannot be on strike indefinitely. It has not been called off, but what we are going to do on Wednesdays is a partial stoppage: each shift will stop for three hours and we will concentrate at the door of the Cabildo at 8.15 am until the assembly decides any other movement", announces the president of the Adislan Business Committee.
Collection of a part of the payroll
These days, Adislan workers have received part of the payroll they are claiming, but they do not explain why they have divided the payment. "We were paid part of the payroll in a fractional way and that is another of the issues that we do not understand, that we are paid as if it were a handout or on account", criticizes Antonio Miguel.
"At the time, when we had the meeting with the Board of Directors on October 18, there was no problem. We were going to receive the payroll, it seemed that the Cabildo was committed to Adislán. But on October 30, everything goes wrong because we are told that nothing more than a fractional payment can be made in the best of cases; that we have to forget about the extra payment, which we have been pending for four and a half months. We don't know if we are going to get paid next month", says Antonio Miguel.
Finally, Antonio Miguel has pointed out that some political parties have contacted the association to convey the situation to them. "It is good that the definitive solution is regularized. It is good that they opt for direct public management, if they opt for social agreement it would also be good. We are concerned about what is going to happen until this is done. We want it to be guaranteed that we are not going to have problems", he concludes.
