Demonstration for "Timple"

The memory of Timple, the stray dog murdered last year in Lanzarote, is still alive. This Saturday, about twenty people have gathered in the Calle Real of Arrecife to ask again for justice for the animal. "We neither forget nor forgive" has been one of the slogans on the banners they carried.

The protesters are asking for the penal code to be tightened for animal abuse, in addition to the change in the Animal Welfare Law.

Sentenced to four months in prison

The perpetrators of the events, a man and a woman of 39 and 40 years respectively, were sentenced to four months in prison for suffocating Timple to death, events that they themselves recorded on video and sent to the City Council.

According to the ruling, the events took place at approximately 11:30 a.m. on July 18, 2020, at the home of the accused who, "acting in common agreement", "with the same intention of attacking the physical integrity of a stray dog and being aware of the high risk that their conduct created for the life of the animal, they tied its front and rear extremities, put a flange on its snout and closed its entire mouth with electrical tape." As a result, the dog died half an hour later from asphyxiation.

Initially, the Public Prosecutor's Office requested a sentence of six months in prison and two years of disqualification for the accused, but after acknowledging the facts, the sentence was reduced by one third.
