A total of 27,614 people are competing tomorrow, Saturday, for one of the 3,118 places offered this year to become a civil guard. The theoretical knowledge and psychotechnical tests are held in a single day in 20 venues throughout the country.
In the Canary Islands, 791 applicants are presenting, of which 236 are women, between the Las Palmas de Gran Canaria and Santa Cruz de Tenerife venues.
Of the total number of applicants, 8,936 are women, that is, 32.36%. Regarding the level of education, a total of 9,754 university graduates stand out, among whom there are 980 with a master's degree and 15 with a doctorate. By age range, the average is 27 years old.
The opposition phase is divided into four tests: knowledge (theoretical and psychotechnical), physical, personal interview and medical examination. For the knowledge exam, the Civil Guard has established 20 venues, located in twelve Autonomous Communities, having in the Canary Islands, two of these venues to carry out the exams. Information about the venues has been disseminated through the Civil Guard website.
Prior to this opposition phase, the competition phase has been carried out, in which the merits that each applicant adds to the minimum requirements to participate in these selective tests have been evaluated, which are: being between 18 and 40 years old, Spanish nationality, lacking a criminal record or having at least a secondary education degree.
The test carried out this Saturday consists of carrying out a series of tests on general theoretical knowledge, languages, spelling, grammar and psychotechnics.
The opposing people who obtain sufficient score in this knowledge test will be summoned for the physical tests: a coordination and agility circuit, an endurance test (two-kilometer race), a strength test consisting of performing a certain number of push-ups according to sex and a 50-meter swimming test.
Those who pass these last tests will be subjected to a personal interview to assess their mental suitability for the job they are applying for and finally a medical examination to assess their health and physical fitness.
The applicants who complete this competition-opposition process will join the Academy of Corporals and Guards of Baeza (Jaén) and the "Duque de Ahumada" College of Young Guards of Valdemoro (Madrid), where they will receive their professional training during an academic year that will conclude with 40 weeks of internships in units of the Corps. Once this instruction phase is over, they will become professional civil guards.
It should be remembered that last July 156 Civil Guard students in practice were presented, who joined the Canary Islands Zone to reinforce services in the islands, not only in territorial citizen security units, but many of them will be able to carry out internships in some specialties deployed in the Autonomous Community.
