The strong wind and rain have forced the diversion of fifteen flights that were due to land in Lanzarote. As Aena has confirmed to La Voz, this Tuesday a total of 14 planes were unable to land in Lanzarote. Most of them, 13, had to do so in Fuerteventura and a final one was sent to Gran Canaria. This Wednesday morning another Ryanair flight, coming from Madrid, has already been diverted, also to the island of Majorera. In addition, Naviera Armas and Líneas Romero have had to cancel several of their ferries.
In the case of Tuesday's flights, Aena explained that throughout the day they were able to return and their passengers were finally able to reach Lanzarote. All the routes were mostly international, coming from cities in Europe, except for an inter-island flight and another from the Peninsula.
Regarding the forecasts for this Wednesday, the public entity has explained that no diversion has been foreseen, since the decision to land or not depends on the commander. However, given the weather conditions, with gusts of wind reaching 70 kilometers per hour and rain, it is likely that the situation of this Tuesday will be repeated.
All Naviera Armas ferries canceled this Tuesday
Boat communications have also been affected by the storm. The State Meteorological Agency activated this Tuesday the yellow warning for coastal phenomena with combined sea of 4 to 5 meters. This was felt both in the north and in the south of the island. Thus, this Tuesday Naviera Armas had to cancel all its departures between Corralejo and Playa Blanca. Already this Wednesday, its first boat has been able to set sail and throughout the day the company expects to leave "intermittently", as long as the weather permits. The other shipping company that covers this route, Fred Olsen, suffered a delay of one hour in its 6.30 am ferry this Tuesday also due to the storm and this Wednesday has indicated to La Voz that it operates "normally".
In the north of the island, Líneas Romero has also had to cancel some services due to sea conditions. Since this Monday, the ferry that leaves at 7 pm from La Graciosa to Órzola and the one that makes the reverse journey at 8 pm have been canceled. The company will not make those two departures this Wednesday either. As for the rest of the day, Líneas Romero has indicated that, unless conditions worsen, it expects the rest of the scheduled departures to take place "normally".
