The 3rd and 4th year ESO students of CEO Argana, in Arrecife, are acquiring new emotional skills these days through the activity Online Banks, the third action that several departments of the Cabildo of Lanzarote include in their project You are Lanzarote, influencer of your home. This is an entrepreneurial innovation program in the field of social awareness, culture and education that has been implemented by the institution for months, with the coordination of the project director, Amalia Martínez Fajardo.
The heads of the departments of Culture, Education and Youth, Jesús Machín Tavío, Ascensión Toledo and Aroa Revelo, respectively, visited this school in Arrecife in the company of its director, María Dolores Rocío, to learn first-hand what skills the students are working on through the proposed project.
Regarding the project, the councilor Ascensión Toledo has highlighted that it is precisely CEO Argana the center in charge of hosting it. “We are delighted with the activity because this is a leading center in the area and always linked to its space”. In addition, Toledo added that “the current management is favoring all the initiatives that nurture the educational community and, in this case, adolescents are able to carry out a reflection exercise in each stage of the gymkhana, creating meeting spaces between students with the aim of taking care of themselves and preventing their mental health from being put at risk in the future”.
For the Cabildo of Lanzarote it is essential to make this commitment to "prevention and face situations from innovative approaches, always advised and directed by psychologists." The island's head of Youth, Aroa Revelo, stressed during the visit that “young people are being free to externalize and share in different spaces, created by and for them, some of their concerns or reactions to the environment; and being able to identify their emotions and get to know each other better”.
On the other hand, the preventive nature of the action Online Banks has been valued by the councilor Jesús Machín, head of Culture. “This new action of You are Lanzarote, influencer of your home is giving us a special satisfaction because it affects a fundamental tool such as mental health. It is something new and peculiar that makes it possible to give students tools so that they can prevent future problems and know how to manage their emotions. We try to help them with activities like these”.
Innovative and in a suitable environment
CEO Argana has managed to create ideal environments to facilitate the interaction of young people. "The scenario is new because all the work is aimed at young people learning to manage their emotions correctly. The students themselves serve as a resource for other young people because they expose their experiences in an action that has the advice of seven psychologists who are also devising the audiovisual works shared later on social networks." In each installment of the videos, an emotion and the solution to its management are presented.
The protagonists of the learning are passing slowly through the different stops, as an emotional gymkhana where they are exercising their skills. A process that they will then share with other young students since the experiential content will be recorded and distributed to the rest of the educational centers on the island.
It should be noted that at the end of this activity of Online Banks, the participating students will be given a sunflower to water, and that they learn that strengthening mental health requires constant and permanent self-care work. In addition, as a closing of the activity, the meeting called Clearly is planned, where each student responds with their own experience to the problems raised.
