Wet wipes and dirty water have been the protagonists in recent days in the Charco de San Ginés. Several people have denounced through social networks the state of this emblematic space of the capital of Arrecife.
One of the users who have highlighted the poor condition of the Charco de San Ginés has been Pablo Martín (@Pablo.dive), a marine biologist and diver who has accumulated 155 thousand followers on Instagram and millions of views.
In a video shared in his stories, this scientist recorded dozens of wet wipes on the bottom of the Charco de San Ginés during the past weekend. These wipes are made of plastic and are not biodegradable, so he explained that if those microplastics break down, they will flood the marine ecosystem.
"It's crazy, all that is wet wipes. Imagine it with the bottom of the sea, balls of wet wipes that reach the bottom of the sea through the emissaries," he warned, while indicating that those wipes do not disappear from the seabed.
In this line, a resident of the area has described the water of the Charco de San Ginés as "unhealthy" and has indicated that there are few weeks left to start the patron saint festivities of Arrecife. "The children who live in the Charco bathe there to enjoy their parties and the summer as their parents did," said this citizen in statements to La Voz.
Thus, she has indicated that in the 49 years she has been living in Lanzarote, she has "never" seen the puddle as dirty as it is now. In some images taken on the afternoon of last Monday, she exposed the bad smell that the accumulated water gave off next to the whale skeleton.
In this sense, another user of networks María González has shared a video with the water dyed brown: "And if we stop romanticizing the islands, tourism and the shit?".
