A woman sat down this Tuesday in the middle of the road on the Vía Medular in Arrecife to protest the lack of taxis in the capital. In the images, recorded by a driver, the woman can be seen in the left lane of the road and the vehicles that were circulating on it had to avoid her, putting her life in danger.
In the video you can see how the driver stops next to her to ask her if she needs help, to which the woman replies that "yes, that the people of Lanzarote protest about what is happening here because there is no public service". The woman had been waiting for a taxi for an hour and a half.
In addition, the driver comments in the recording that he agrees with what the citizen says because "the taxis go to the ships", referring to the cruise passengers who arrive in Arrecife. The woman adds that "you call, you call and you call, and these are emergencies, this is my island and it's always the same."
It is not the first time that the residents of the capital have complained about the poor taxi service. As La Voz has already published on different occasions, citizens denounce the long waits to take this service.
In addition, the Cabildo of Lanzarote has announced this Tuesday that it will summon the municipalities of the island to evaluate the coverage that the taxi sector offered this Christmas at a municipal and island level after the resolution agreed in December that established an exceptional service during the holidays.
However, this special taxi service during Christmas did not go as planned because "many users, both residents and tourists, were neglected at key moments, especially in strategic and high-demand areas," said Domingo Cejas, Minister of Transport of the Island Council.
