The British couple formed by Patricia Barlett and Stuart, residing in Lanzarote, never imagined they would have such a tragic end. Stuart ended up dying suddenly in Lanzarote while working, while his wife was admitted to a hospital in Gran Canaria, where she heard them trying to save his life, as published by The Sun.

Both had businesses in Lanzarote, where they had lived for years, but Patricia Barlett was admitted to Gran Canaria after having to undergo surgery following a severe intestinal perforation. After going to public healthcare on several occasions and being discharged twice, her husband Stuart decided to take his wife to a private hospital, where they finally fitted her with a colostomy bag.

During the difficult months that followed, Stuart was his wife's fundamental support, even though it was a very hard blow for her to have a colostomy bag, which even led her to tell Stuart that he could leave her if he preferred. However, her husband let her know that he loved her and would be by her side supporting her.

After waking up from the operation, Patricia saw her husband by her side, but Stuart had to return to Lanzarote to attend to his businesses, but they continued to stay in touch.

"Before he left, he kissed me on the forehead," she recalls. "'Get some rest, Kinnins,' he said, using the nickname he had given me. I felt safe and happy," she continues.

After receiving a message from her husband saying "you are brave and strong, and I am proud of you," Patricia called him, but it went to voicemail. Hours passed and her husband did not return her call, so she began to worry.

At that moment, an unknown number called her. It was one of his clients, who contacted Patricia to inform her of what had happened and told her that Stuart had collapsed while working and they were trying to revive him

"Panic washed over me, but all I could do was stay on the phone and listen to the commotion in the background," she says.

Although the medical staff performed cardiopulmonary resuscitation for 45 minutes, they were ultimately unable to do anything more for him and he passed away. Barlett panicked, and the doctors had to calm her down by administering a pill.

Days after the tragedy, family and friends celebrated Stuart's funeral in a church in Lanzarote. "The pain is still very recent. I miss the sound of his laughter and I feel very alone when I sit with my morning coffee," she recounts.

Campaign to provide defibrillators

Finally, the autopsy revealed that Stuart suffered a heart attack due to heart disease. His wife assures that if there had been a defibrillator in the area, her husband could have survived.

Therefore, she has started a fundraiser called *Stuart's Prevention Plan* to buy defibrillators that will be installed in the area and provide CPR training.

"I can't bring Stuart back, but I can help others so they don't have to suffer the pain and sadness that I live with every day," she points out.
