The fishing boat 'Marella', owned by Daniel Pérez Motesdeoca, one of the 18 boats of the Playa Blanca Fishermen's Association, was in charge this year of carrying the Virgen del Carmen along the coast of southern Lanzarote, and it did so escorted by about fifty boats, including fishing and sports boats, which honored the patron saint of the sea this Sunday accompanied by the music of the El Golpito band and the applause and cheers of hundreds of residents, neighbors and visitors who followed the maritime procession from the town's beach and the promenade.

A sunny day and above all full of feelings and emotions experienced by the people of Playa Blanca who, in addition to the intensity of their religious expression, remembered their seafaring past and present. Entire families of fishermen at sea and on land participated in a very special day, where the memory of deceased neighbors was also more than present. The mayor of Yaiza, Óscar Noda, led the representation of the Municipal Corporation.

Faithful and companions attended the mass at noon in the Plaza del Carmen officiated by the parish priest of Yaiza, Jonathan Almeida, and then went in procession to the small beach. There, hundreds of people were waiting to see the Virgin boarding an Emerlan zodiac and from there to the fishing boat 'Marella' to begin the procession.

After about forty minutes of walking, the patron saint of the sea returned to the beach, this being the moment of greatest emotion. The silence, only interrupted by the songs dedicated to the Virgin and the town of Playa Blanca, was the pure demonstration of adoration. Playa Blanca fully experienced its maritime procession and then continued enjoying it in the square until the afternoon ended with the performance of musical groups.

The maritime procession was the last meeting of the Carmen 2024 festivities. The Yaiza City Council thanks the participation of the town and visitors, the work of the municipal staff, the collaboration of the festival committee and the Playa Blanca Fishermen's Association and the services of the Local Police, Civil Protection Yaiza and different security forces who ensured citizen tranquility in some parties that ended without incidents.
