The National Geographic Institute (IGN) has reported a new seismic movement registered on the afternoon of this Friday, May 8, 2026, northwest of Lanzarote. The tremor, which took place at 18:42 hours (local time), reached a magnitude of 2.6 mbLg.
According to the technical data of the agency, the epicenter was located at coordinates 29.09 degrees north and 14.25 degrees west, at a depth of 15 kilometers below sea level. An event that has not been felt by the population.
Last April 24, another movement occurred that the National Geographic Institute recorded. Its epicenter was at a distance of 29.08 latitude and -14.44 longitude from the island, between Lanzarote and Fuerteventura. The earthquake was detected at thirteen kilometers of depth.
