The president of the Cabildo of Lanzarote, María Dolores Corujo, has reiterated this Tuesday that she "will not admit more sea cages" on the island. She has also stressed that the highest island body "can guarantee, at this time, that no new sea cages will be installed in any area of the island in the future."
Corujo has insisted that she respects that aquaculture "can be developed" on any other island of the Archipelago. According to a statement issued by the corporation, in order to "close this matter", the Lanzarote president announces the upcoming visit to the island of the president of the Canary Islands, Ángel Víctor Torres. The head of the Canarian Executive is scheduled to meet with interested groups and individuals to resolve any doubts they may have regarding the Regional Aquaculture Planning Plan (PROAC).
The president of the Cabildo has also confirmed that the autonomous government will extend the deadline for allegations and that the Cabildo will appeal the concession process in the waters off the coast of Tías and San Bartolomé. María Dolores Corujo reiterates that the Government of the Canary Islands and the Cabildo "agree on our opposition to these facilities" on the coast of Lanzarote.
"If we refer to the verifiable facts, the only certainty we can confirm regarding this harmful industry is that the sea cages that had been installed for decades off the coast of Playa Quemada have been dismantled during this term," the president said.
