Concern is growing among associations, sports clubs, businessmen and athletes about the installation of marine cages on the coast of Arrecife, San Bartolomé and Tías.
A situation that has arisen after the Vice-Ministry of the Primary Sector of the Government of the Canary Islands denied and "rejected" the allegations presented by the groups "for considering that we lack legitimacy".
In a statement, the clubs and associations consider "that politicians from Lanzarote have looked the other way, allowing this point of selecting a company for the installation and operation of marine cages to be reached, without taking into account the problems that it will generate for sea sports, fishermen, merchant shipping, air easement, the tourism sector and other economic sectors, due to the installation of this type of industry off the coasts of Arrecife, San Bartolomé and Tías"
"These associations and entities urge politicians to take this concern with greater interest and seek an urgent solution that does not harm the Island of Lanzarote." And they recall that "since the approval of the Canary Islands Fisheries Law in 2003, the approval of the PROAC in 2018 and until the order in 2021 of Detailed Planning of the area in Lanzarote ZIA-LZ2, which delimits the areas for aquaculture in the Canary Islands, they have had enough time to stop this outrage that will cause so much damage to our sport and our island economy."
