The Cabildo de Lanzarote has launched the Didactic Workshops on the Handicrafts of Lanzarote, an educational activity aimed at more than 600 fifth grade students on the occasion of Canary Islands Day.

Thus, on the morning of this Monday, the Patio de los Artesanos in the Casa-Museo del Campesino hosted the first day of these conferences with the presence of dozens of schoolchildren who were received by the councilors of Crafts and Education, Aroa Revelo and Ascensión Toledo, respectively.

“The objective of this activity, which will last until next Friday, May 10”, Revelo points out, “is for students to learn first-hand about the different craft trades of our island, such as pottery, palm basketry, rosettes or the sieve, thus valuing handmade work and the traditional culture of Lanzarote and Graciosa”.

Through a tour of the different craft stalls, the students participating in these conferences were able to discover the different trades thanks to the explanations of Santiago Ramirez, a wool spinning craftsman; Julián Rodríguez, with the sieve; Antonio Betancor with the rush basketry and Mª Concepción García, with the natural dyes made from cochineal, among others.
