The Management of Health Services of the Lanzarote Health Area, attached to the Ministry of Health of the Government of the Canary Islands, paid tribute to the Resident Intern Doctors (MIR) who have completed their specialty in a meeting held last Friday, May 15, in the auditorium of the Island Council.
A total of eleven new specialists received the accreditation that formalizes the end of their residency: seven specialists in Family and Community Medicine, two in Geriatrics, one specialist in Pediatrics, and the first specialist in Internal Medicine trained in the Lanzarote Management.
The meeting was attended by the manager of the Health Services of Lanzarote, Pablo Eguia; the Director of Primary Care, María Eugenia Perdomo; the Medical Director of the Doctor José Molina Orosa University Hospital, Luis Carlos Moreno; the Director of Quality and Processes, María Hernández; and the head of the Teaching Commission, Verónica Gutiérrez, in addition to tutors, teaching collaborators, colleagues of the residents, and family members.

Four and five years of training
During the event, the new specialists presented the projects carried out throughout their residency, which have been evaluated and approved by the respective teaching units.
Throughout these four and five years, the MIRs have worked under the supervision of the different medical and emergency services, while receiving theoretical training and participating in courses, seminars, studies, and scientific communications.
The manager, Pablo Eguia, dedicated a few words to the new specialists and highlighted their professional growth, their adaptability, and their commitment to Lanzarote's healthcare during this training period. He also emphasized the excellent preparation received from the professionals of the different teaching units of the Management.
For her part, the head of Teaching, Verónica Gutiérrez, thanked the work of the tutors and the teams that collaborate in the training of the specialists, with whom they share knowledge and promote teamwork. She also highlighted the excellent human and professional quality of the new specialists who are joining the health and hospital centers of Lanzarote.
Accredited to train residents in General Surgery and Digestive System
It should be noted that the Doctor José Molina Orosa University Hospital has recently been accredited by the Ministry of Health for training in the specialty of General Surgery and Digestive System.
Currently, a total of 47 MIR are training in the Lanzarote Health Management in the specialties of Family and Community Medicine, Pediatrics, Geriatrics, Internal Medicine, and Traumatology. Likewise, 23 Resident Intern Nurses are undergoing training in different specialties in the health centers of Lanzarote.
