The Resident Internal Nurses (EIR) of the 2024-2026 promotion of the Management of the Health Services of the Lanzarote Health Area have presented their scientific research works for the end of residency in their respective specialties, focused on relevant areas of care and healthcare on the island.

The scientific meeting, organized by the Teaching Commission of the Management, took place this Friday, April 17, in the assembly hall of the Cabildo de Lanzarote, and was attended by the director of the Health Area, Erasmo García; the director of Quality of the Management, María Hernández; the director of Primary Care Nursing, Felicidad Béjar; the director of Hospital Care Nursing, Teresa Salagre; and the head of studies, Verónica Gutiérrez, in addition to tutors, residents, and family members.

The eleven new Nursing specialists belong to the V promotion of Family and Community Nursing residents, the V of Pediatric Nursing, the III of Geriatric Nursing and the IX of Obstetric-Gynecological Nursing, who have completed their specialized training in the health centers and hospitals of the island during the last two years, supervised by the Commission and the Subcommissions of Teaching of the Management of the Health Area of Lanzarote.

Last academic step to obtain the specialty

The five scientific research papers prepared by the new specialists have addressed topics related to each of the specialties. Thus, the Family and Community Nursing residents have presented a study on the impact of an educational program on the perception of alcohol consumption risk in adolescents, as well as an analysis of loneliness in people over 65 years old from the municipality of Tinajo.

For their part, the Obstetric-Gynecological Nursing residents presented a work focused on the satisfaction perceived by women during childbirth at the Hospital Universitario Doctor José Molina Orosa.

In the field of Geriatric Nursing, a study was presented on functional decline in older adults in an Orthogeriatrics unit of the Molina Orosa Hospital.

Likewise, in the specialty of Pediatric Nursing, a work was presented on the lived experience of families of children with autism spectrum disorder in Lanzarote, from a phenomenological approach.

The presentation of the final specialty projects represents the last academic act that the residents perform before completing their training and becoming specialist nurses after passing the final evaluation.
