Microplastics on La Cantería Beach

The association 'Lanzarote Limpia' has denounced the existence of microplastics on the beach of La Cantería, in Órzola. The members of the Lanzarote association visited the area this Monday and discovered the amount of garbage accumulated on the coastline.

All kinds of materials such as plastic 'pellets', microplastics, bottle caps, pieces of rope, etc. is what covers the sand of the beach, making a row that occupies a large part of it. An image that warns of the pollution and dirt that accumulates over time.

It is not part of an isolated or specific event. "It is a situation that has been seen for 10 years", one of the members, Aduén Morales, told La Voz. He makes it clear that the problem will continue to be present in many places on the island. "It's going to get worse," concludes the young man.

As was published just a month ago in the newspaper, spills of tons of plastic balls into the sea have occupied beaches such as La Garita on the island. However, the presence of these plastic balls and other microplastics on the coasts of Lanzarote are frequent and have been occurring for years due to marine currents that drag this waste to the Canary Islands.

At that time, it was the association that sent several images where these residues could be seen accumulated on the shores of the beaches of Lanzarote.
