The agenda for the celebration of Lanzarote's 30th anniversary as a Biosphere Reserve continues with multiple activities. The Cabildo of Lanzarote is planning for this month of June a talk-colloquium on species settlement on the island, a walk through the Arrecife marina adapted for deaf people, and a seminar to reflect on the ecosocial crisis.

The acting councillor of the Biosphere Reserve of Lanzarote, Nicolás Saavedra, encourages citizens to enjoy the program designed to commemorate this anniversary, which will extend throughout the year with many more activities.

The talk "Animal settlement and diversity on an oceanic island" will take place next Monday, June 5, at 7:00 p.m., in the Municipal Archive of Arrecife, in order to disseminate how the Canary Islands were populated and take a journey through time through the species present in Lanzarote, both invertebrates and vertebrates.

Charla poblamiento animal y biodiversidad

It will be given by Pedro Oromí Masoliver, professor of Zoology at the University of La Laguna (ULL) and honorary professor of the aforementioned university center since 2019. Oromí also has extensive research experience in systematics, biogeography and evolution of insects and other arthropods of Macaronesia and has published 12 books and more than 200 scientific articles.

Seminar on the ecosocial crisis

Diez libros, diez enseñanzas

This seminar was born from the alliance between the UNESCO Chair of Environmental Education and Sustainable Development of the UNED, the Office of the Biosphere Reserve of the Cabildo of Lanzarote and the headquarters of the UNED on the island and aims to contribute to the analysis, reflection and search for solutions to the problems that befall us.

This seminar aims to take a tour of the contents of 10 recent essays by 10 speakers, who will present what they have learned and make a critical analysis at the same table, generating a debate with the attending public.

Specifically, the speakers will be Pablo Manuel Díaz, who will present "Limits: Ecology and freedom" by Giorgos Kallis; Domingo de Guzmán, who will take a tour of "What is at stake" by Philipp Blom; Andrés García, who will talk about "Ecofascism" by Carlos Taibo; and José Luis Asencio, who will present "Infocracy" by Byung_Chul Han.

Also, Myriam Ybot will intervene, who will be in charge of the essay "Absences and Losses" by Yayo Herrera; Jeyson Gómez, who will present "Ecocide" by David Whyte; Vahitiate Quintero, who will talk about "Let's be as intelligent as nature" by Guntir Pauli, Iván Vilella, who will be in charge of "Dark Ecology" by Timothy Morton; Yaiza Domínguez, who will take a tour of "Islands of abandonment" by Carl Flyn; and Carlos Duárez, who will present the essay "The rights of the Earth", by José Antonio Martín Pallín.
