Documentary filmmaker and underwater documentary producer Felipe Ravina has managed to capture an unprecedented scene in the Canary Islands. In a video shared on social media, the content creator has shared an unusual image: a young angel shark (Squatina Squatina) being swallowed by a smooth butterfly ray (Gymnura altavela).
"A reminder of how wild and unpredictable nature is. The more you observe it, the more you value it," Ravina indicated on his social media. This videographer has been awarded the Cimasud Golden Rail twice, in 2022 and 2024.In addition, Ravina is part of the international Angel Shark Project, an international initiative that seeks to preserve this unique species in the world and for which the Canary Islands are its main hope.Both the manta ray and the angel shark are two species that are critically endangered, not only in the Canary Islands but also worldwide.
