The Doctor José Molina Orosa University Hospital, a center attached to the Ministry of Health of the Government of the Canary Islands, hosts the second edition of the specialized course in the care of patients with severe trauma, organized by the Emergency Department in collaboration with the Spanish Society of Emergency and Emergency Medicine (SEMES) and the International Trauma Life Support (ITLS) organization.

The training began this Thursday, October 23, and will continue until this Saturday in the classrooms and facilities of the hospital. It brings together 25 professionals from hospital and out-of-hospital emergencies in Lanzarote, with the aim of improving the health response to situations of high clinical complexity, such as traffic accidents or those in which serious injuries occur.

Throughout the three days, participants combine theoretical and practical sessions focused on the initial assessment, stabilization, and safe transfer of polytraumatized patients. In addition, clinical simulations are carried out in different areas of the hospital, reproducing real-life scenarios of emergencies, traffic accidents, or rescues in order to evaluate the skills of the participants.

The exercises include the evaluation of the accident scene, the immobilization of the cervical spine, advanced airway management, and the organization of the patient's transfer. These practices encourage teamwork, role assignment, and decision-making in critical time.

According to Dr. María Sabalich, head of the Emergency Department at the Molina Orosa Hospital, "this type of training is essential to maintain excellence in care for patients with severe trauma, where speed, coordination, and teamwork in decision-making make the difference in survival."

The course is taught by specialized instructors from different emergency services in the Canary Islands and other autonomous communities. The activity is declared of health interest and accredited by SEMES. It is part of the SEMES-ITLS training program, contributes to the updating of action protocols, and strengthens the emergency network of Lanzarote, guaranteeing effective and safe healthcare.
