Lanzarote takes a firm step in the modernization of its nautical infrastructure with the approval of the file for the extraordinary extension of the El Barquito marina, in Puerto Calero. The Advisory and Administration Council of Puertos Canarios, chaired by Councilor Pablo Rodríguez Valido, has given the green light this Thursday to a total investment of more than 7 million euros to improve the efficiency, sustainability and competitiveness of this strategic enclave for the island.

The action contemplates an investment of 4,462,202.35 euros, in addition to another 2,936,997.65 euros for maintenance and replacement. The extension will be extended for 35 years, with an annual fee of 194,316.23 euros, which will be updated according to the CPI.

In parallel, the Council has also approved the processing of the extension of the marina of Pasito Blanco, in Gran Canaria, which foresees an investment of 3.3 million euros and a concession period of 25 years.

Both initiatives are part of the Canary Islands Government's strategy to renew the concessions of nautical-sports facilities considered key to the economic development and sustainability of the autonomous port system. “Our marinas are essential pieces for the economic and social development of the Archipelago”, said Councilor Pablo Rodríguez, who stressed the fulfillment of one of the objectives set from the beginning of his management.

The concessionary entities have presented investment projects aimed at incorporating innovative technologies, improving energy efficiency and reinforcing the quality of services linked to tourism, leisure and nautical sports.

After this initial approval, the files will be submitted to the public information procedure before their final validation by the Board of Directors of Puertos Canarios.

The public entity emphasizes that these actions reaffirm the Executive's commitment to the modernization and continuous improvement of marinas, fundamental pillars to maintain the competitiveness of the sector in the islands.
