The artists' collective Papacría, established in Lanzarote in 2007 with the aim of promoting care for the environment, has published on social networks the garbage that has been collected on Famara beach.
Beer cans, a two-liter bottle of Coca Cola, a bottle of wine, cigarette butts, tea bags and even a sack have been found during a day of garbage collection at this point on the island.
Famara is traditionally a point of arrival for marine debris due to the currents. However, most of the garbage collected by Papacría did not present the state of decomposition typical of garbage that is dragged by the sea, nor was it wet.
In addition, it is common on Famara beach to find remains of food and drink wrappers in the zocos where locals and visitors take shelter from the wind on beach days.
