112 Canarias has registered between 2:00 PM and 4:00 PM around 220 incidents related to rainfall, most of them located in the municipalities of Arrecife (70) and Teguise (152), and mostly related to flooding in homes and garages, as well as problems on different roads due to water accumulation.
The heavy rains this Saturday that forced Lanzarote into an emergency situation dropped 60 liters of water per square meter in the course of two hours in the towns of Costa Teguise and Arrecife.
According to data released by the Insular Emergency Consortium, between 1:05 PM and 3:00 PM, 62.2 liters/m2 were collected on Las Cucharas beach, in Costa Teguise; 60.8 liters/m2 in the Tenderete area, in Arrecife; and 43.2 liters/m2 in Punta de los Vientos, also in Arrecife.
All those rains were concentrated in that area of the east of the island, while in others no water had fallen at that time.
For this reason, it has been necessary to activate emergency resources, both municipal and insular, to provide assistance in these services, in coordination with the Emergency and Security Coordinating Center (CECOES) 112.
The General Directorate of Emergencies declared the pre-alert for floods from 4:00 PM and reminds that you should not drive, or park, in the channels of ravines as they are points of the island's geography in which the accumulation of rainwater that is generating can cause floods or runoff.
In addition, it is recommended to avoid traveling by road and not to access roads that are flooded by water.
It is important to check the battery in case it is necessary to call 112 to report an emergency or urgent situation.
In case of requesting information, citizens should call 012.
The General Directorate of Security and Emergencies of the Government of the Canary Islands has adopted this decision based on the available information and in application of Decree 11 5/201 8, of July 30, which approves the Special Plan for Civil Protection and Emergency Care due to flood risk in the Autonomous Community of the Canary Islands.
