The Investigating Section of Plaza number 1 of the Court of First Instance of Arrecife has taken a statement from one of the complainants who brought to the court's attention the abuse and mockery to which dependent persons and elderly users of the Amavir residence in Tías were subjected.

The preliminary proceedings carried out by the investigating body are considering the alleged commission of crimes against moral integrity and degrading treatment. These crimes are provisional, so depending on how the investigation progresses, others could be added or some removed.

In addition to taking the complainant's statement, the Court also began in early August to issue judicial summonses to take statements from the investigated persons. In this phase of the investigation, there are at least four investigated persons, according to information accessed by La Voz.

Mockery and abuse shared by WhatsApp

"You're very good at titling porn movies," a worker from Amavir referred in those terms to a photograph of an elderly man in a wheelchair whose private parts were showing above his trousers. The photograph had been shared by another colleague in the entity's WhatsApp group. "Speaking of the king of Rome, he appears at the door," the employee mocked.

This scene is part of the images and videos that were taken inside this socio-health facility, dependent on the Cabildo de Lanzarote and whose service is outsourced to Amavir, and which have led to a judicial investigation.

The reported images showed a patient in a wheelchair abandoned in the middle of a corridor, an elderly man sleeping on a mattress without sheets or bedding, a video of another person pretending to prepare a line of white powder with a hundred-euro bill, or another recording in which two people with functional diversity are seen kissing.
