Calls for gender violence increase by 16% this 2023 in Lanzarote

112 answered 1,183 calls for gender violence from Lanzarote in 2018, 1.4% less than the previous year

The 'Care Service for Women Victims of Violence' on 112 has reported a 16% increase in calls for gender violence compared to last year 2022, according to the Lanzarote Data Center. Since the beginning of the year there have been a total of 869 calls, more than in the months of last year, in which there were a total of 749 registered warnings.

Regarding this month of August, 147 calls were received for gender violence. The total number of calls received in August 2023 has increased compared to the same month of the previous year, in which there were 142 warnings, 4% more than in 2022. In addition, the month of March showed the highest increase with 114 cases, 75% more than in 2022, in which there were 65 calls. During the summer, the month of June follows with 123 cases compared to 94 in 2022, which represents an increase of 31%.

In addition, according to the data provided, it is observed that in the months of February and April there has been no increase in calls. In the past month of February, 82 calls were registered, 5% less than in 2022, which had 86 warnings. Regarding April, the 89 warnings that took place this 2023 have meant 5% less than last year, with 94 cases during the month.

Among the reasons for the calls, the highest number of warnings has been for 'Physical violence without sexual assault', with 76 notifications last August. 'Non-physical violence' has also been another of the causes, with 54 warnings registered. Among other reasons for less attention, there have been 'Consultation', with ten warnings and 'Physical violence with sexual assault', with five calls, a number equal to that in the month of July 2023.

Finally, the warnings for 'Coordination' have had only two calls, as collected by the Lanzarote Data Center.

Arrecife, the area with the most calls

The area of Lanzarote in which the most calls have been registered last month has been Arrecife, with 86 warnings. While Haría and Tinajo have managed to tie in the lowest number of calls with 3 warnings. In second place is Tías, with 21 telephone attentions. In addition, Teguise and Yaiza are right in the middle with 15 and 12 calls and San Bartolomé repeats this month with 7 calls, just like the ones it had in the month of July.

As for the rest of the islands, Tenerife leads the one that has registered the most cases with 716 calls in August, followed by Gran Canaria with 651 cases. In addition, Fuerteventura and La Palma, with their 87 and 62 cases, are placed as the third and fourth that have received the most warnings. In last position are La Gomera, with only five cases and El Hierro, the island in which last August there was not a single call.
