On Tuesday afternoon, December 9, members of the Security and Emergency Consortium were activated by Headquarters to travel to the Punta Mujeres pier, where a gillnet approximately 25 meters long had been detected about 50 meters from the pier, with three angel sharks trapped inside.

Upon arrival at the scene, and in the presence of Seprona and Local Police officers, the intervention teams proceeded to locate the fishing gear, confirming that the three specimens of angel shark — a species protected in the Canary Islands — were already deceased.

At the request of Seprona, the La Graciosa Marine Reserve was activated to proceed with the removal of the gillnet. Once the boat arrived, the personnel collaborated from the water, securing ropes to the gillnet to facilitate its collection. During the operation, two drums of moray eels and a small trap were also recovered.
